Friends of Celtic Culture Concert by Millish Brings Innovative Sound

Band Plays Bay City in Last Gig Before Heading to Scotland

Bay City has never heard sounds like those produced by Millish, an Ann Arbor innovative music quintet.

Performing under the aegis of Friends of Celtic Culture, the band played to a small but appreciative crowd at the State Theatre last Saturday night.

Then they headed out by limo to the Green Hut where planning no doubt took place for the group's upcoming trip to Scotland.

Millish is comprised of guitarist Jess Lee Mason, drummer Mike Shimmin, Uilleann piper Isaac Alderson, fiddler Brad Phillips and bass player Andrew Kratzat.

On Jan. 30-31, Millish is slated to play in the Celtic Connections concert in Glasgow.

Their debut album has earned them an International Acoustic Music Award.

Millish creates a unique sound called "fusion" that Promoter Denny Hayes said "is like nothing you've ever heard before -- it's unique, and great."

After hearing the sounds for nearly two hours, the Bay City audience agreed.
