The Prime Event Center downtown Bay City is the setting Saturday night as Greater Bay Area Boxing Center and The American Boxing and Athletic Association (ABAA) present their annual Spring Boxing Show.





This ABAA amateur boxing show is the last for the season in Bay City. Although this spring show will continue to prepare the junior boxers which includes ages 8-16, for the upcoming Junior Olympic State tournaments coming up May 16, 17, 2009.

Bay City's Heavyweight Eastern MI Champion, Matt Maciag VS. Efrain Garcia of Saginaw will be the Main Event of the night.
Bay City ABAA fighters tentatively scheduled for Saturday fights are Deon Tompkins, Tristin Morse, A J Johnson, David Middleton, Josh Lauzon, Fabian Ramirez and Santino MeDina.
(All bouts subject to change.)

Approximately 15 bouts are on the fight card featuring good clean boxing with fighters ranging in age from 12 years and up. All bouts are sanctioned by Michigan Association of USA Boxing Inc.

Show starts at 8:00PM, tickets are $12.00 in advance, $15.00 at the door. Ticket locations are at Hooters of Bay City, New Body Health & Fitness, Shirts, Mugs and More on Center Ave in Bay City and The All New Duso's Bar on Midland Street Bay City.

Local boxers are just returning from the 2009 Michigan Golden Gloves State Championships at the Grand Valley National Guard Armory in Wyoming held May 17 and 18, 2009.

Results from 2009 Michigan Golden Gloves State Championships listed below, according to Gary Richard, President of Michigan USA Boxing Association.

Merrill Martinez lost a decision to Vincent Jennings of Grand Rapids in the 125 lb. Open Division. Fabian Ramirez lost a decision to Anthony Walker of Benton Harbor in the 165 lb. Open Division. Matt Maciag lost a decision to Kyle McNutt of Battle Creek in the 201+ lb.Open Division.

Saginaw boxers Ernesto Garza won this third straight Golden Gloves State Championship with wins over Alex Newton of Michigan City, Ind., on Friday, and Tyler James, of Grand Rapids, on Saturday in the 119 lb. Open Division

Jose Bernal won his second straight GG's State State Championship with wins over William Johnson, of Grand Rapids on Friday and Nick Klein, also of Grand Rapids, on Saturday in the 152 lb. Open Division.

Vernon Washington won his first Golden Gloves Open Division title with wins over Antwan Herndon, of Benton Harbor on Friday, and Jarvis Edwards, of Grand Rapids, on Saturday, in the 178 lb. Open Division.

Robert Sims, of Saginaw 201+ lb. Novice Division State Champion. Sims defeated Thad Berkhousen, of St. John's on Friday, and won his championship by winning a decision over, Airik Woodson, of Wyoming, MI. on Saturday.
