As some folks look for robins, tulips and warm weather as a sure signs of spring, others know it is the sounds of children's laughter, leather hitting leather and in some cases, the ting of the bat that truly means spring has arrived. Such was the case Saturday as Essexville Hampton Little League officially opened their season.

Just like Southwest, Southeast, Northwest and Northeast had done the week before, there were parades, speeches and thanks to the many volunteers who have put in thankless hours to ready the fields and facilities for this summer's action. As the hotdogs were grilling and the seagulls were flocking, it is time to "Play Ball."

One of the games played in the boys major division, 12 year olds and under, was between Meijer and Bay Landscaping. It was a tough game as neither team could must a run in the first three innings.

In the top of the fourth inning, Nathan Caverly got things going for Bay Landscaping with a single. He then stole second. Back to back fielding errors helped produce two runs as Caverly and Joe Foret crossed the plate making it 2-0.

Bay Landscaping struck again in the sixth walks to Jeremy Morse and Gavin VanOoteghen got things going. An error then a hit by Joe Foret got runs across. Jacob Foret drove home the final run of the inning on a ground out to short making it Bay Landscaping 6, Meijer 0.
