New Rib Competitors Come to Bay City, Labadie Pig Gig

The Labadie Pig Gig presented by State Farm in Bay City's Vets Park August 6 -9, 2009, is excited to welcome new comers to the national Rib Championship Cook-off. Newcomers include, Smokin Rednecks BBQ from St. Petersburg, Florida, The BBQ Company of Phoenix AZ. and Big Boned BBQ from Hixon, TN.

  • Smokin rednecks BBQ is owned and operated by Gary Preston and Glenna Davis. Gary armed with his team of redneck outlaws and in-laws Tim, Andy, and James. The Redneck BBQ team travels across the USA bringing true southern BBQ with the finest tradition of the south. Smokin Rednecks BBQ has won numerous awards including Grand Champion, Best Ribs, Pork, Beef, and Chicken. Starting in 2010 you will be able to find Smokin Rednecks sauces and rubs in food stores around the nation. The Rednecks have been featured on many network shows such as Food Network, Discovery Channel, Good Morning America, and the Travel Channel. "Our goal is to bring out the Redneck that is hidden in every man, woman, and child across the great USA. We are looking forward to meeting and serving all our new Redneck friends in Bay City, MI." - Glenna Davis


  • Big Boned BBQ from Hixon, TN. will be making their debut at the Labadie Pig Gig presented by State Farm in Bay City's Vets Park, August 6th through the 9th. Big Boned BBQ is headed by a father-son team that has been in the food service industry for 15 years. Father, John Nelson and son, Patrick Nelson has been professionally cooking BBQ for the past 13 years and competing for 3 years as national ribbers. Big Boned BBQ has won the title of Best Ribs in Indiana and Pennsylvania. Big Boned BBQ has won awards for Best Ribs, Best Brisket, and Best Sauce. Big Boned BBQ meat is dry rubbed with 17 different spices. Their pulled pork is hand pulled, not chopped and cooked in Big Boned original sauce. "Big Boned BBQ is excited for the opportunity to bring their southern-style BBQ to Bay City. We are looking forward to the great entertainment and great competition. When you come to our booth you are getting the freshest slow smoked BBQ with the finest blend of spices available on the BBQ circuit today." -Patrick Nelson

  • The Barbecue Company will be making its way back to the Labadie Pig Gig presented by State Farm in Bay City's Vets Park August 6th through the 9th. The BBQ Company of Phoenix AZ. was founded in 1987 by Andrew and Julie Jepsen. The Barbecue started participating in regional and national Barbecue festival competitions in 1993 and since then have traveled around the country competing and selling foods in a concession environment ever since. The company and is extremely versatile with there menu diversity, professionalism, and ability to feed large groups efficiently fabulous foods. We specialize in barbecue cuisine but also have a diverse culinary background that allows us to offer many different food styles. The Barbecue Company has won the highest awards in national and international competitions for their meat and poultry product, barbecue sauces and rubs.

    "We are excited to be back in the Bay City event and hope the economy will not affect people coming out and treating themselves to a fun event to take their minds off things for the weekend. We have a new sauce that has been doing well in competition that we will be debuting hopefully at this event if we can get the recipe finalized for a large batch run. Hope the weather and crowds will treat us all well and maybe we will get lucky enough to win a trophy or two." -Andy Jepsen





  • The Labadie Pig Gig presented by State Farm is held in Veterans Memorial Park, August 6th through the 9th. The event features a national rib competition, nightly musical concerts, the Coors Light tent, Covenant Health Care Hospitality tent, the Great Lakes Loons Family Stage, Pig Racing, the Catholic Federal 5K race, children's activities and a brand new Water-ski show! Dow Corning sponsors the charity area which benefits over 20 area charities.
