Brian Elder Announces Candidacy for State Representative
Four-Term County Commissioner Cites Economic Development Successes

County Commissioner Brian Elder seeks state representative post.
Brian Elder, Auburn attorney and four-term Bay County Commissioner, has announced his candidacy for state representative from the 96th District.
As chairman of the board of Bay Future, Inc., Elder is focusing his candidacy on both the successes of the economic development agency and on the need to preserve and create jobs.
"Clearly we need both leadership and the ability to work with others to solve our state's problems," said Elder in his campaign announcement. "We need cooperation and results, not excuses."
He cited successes of Bay Future, Inc., including projects like the new Fabiano Brothers complex, the expansion of Michigan Sugar in Monitor Township, and Bay View Foods, Linwood, and others.
"As your state representative I will fight to bring home the expansion of the Karn-Weadock plant in Hampton to bring jobs and power the future of our region," he said.
Mr. Elder also noted: "While many state and local governments are facing a budget crisis, as a county commissioner I've been responsible with your tax dollars. Our county budget has been balanced without reducing services, laying off employees or raising taxes."
He also cited the need to balance the state budget while protecting children, seniors and the most vulnerable among us.
The first member of his family to go to college, Mr. Elder was graduated from Wayne State University with a bachelor's degree in History, receiving Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa academic honors.
He was graduated from the UCLA School of Law, earning a Juris Doctorate with honors in property law and oral advocacy and has practiced law in mid-Michigan as Brian K. Elder P.L.C., a general civil law practice.
He is a 4th Degree member of the St. Stanislaus Knights of Columbus Council. Mr. Elder has been married for 12 years to Susan, a teacher at Bay City Central High School, and the couple has three children.
He released a list of 16 local officials who are endorsing him for the state representative post. The list is available on the campaign website www.brianelderforstaterepresentative.com.
