Economist to Speak Oct. 7 at Delta College on Making Michigan Great Again

The Delta College President's Speaker Series is bringing Economist Charles Wheelan to campus on Wednesday, October 7. He will speak on "Michigan's Economic Crisis: Making our Great Lakes State 'Great' Again."

Offering economic insights with humor and style, Wheelan will discuss the future of Michigan and what is needed in private and public sector policies to make Michigan thrive.

Wheelan, a former Midwest correspondent for The Economist, 1997-2002, contributes regularly to National Public Radio, is the author of Yahoo's popular 'Naked Economics' column, and is a public policy lecturer at the University of Chicago.

He has also written for the Chicago Tribune, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and Yahoo! Finance.

Mr. Wheelan is the author of "Naked Economics: Undressing the Dismal Science." He was an unsuccessful Democratic candidate in a special election for Illinois's 5th congressional district, the seat vacated by Rahm Emanuel, President Barack Obama's chief of staff.

"Naked Economics," Wheelan's first book, is an introduction to economics for lay readers. Wheelan is also a regular contributor to the Motley Fool Radio Show on National Public Radio and to the Eight Forty-Eight program on WBEZ, Chicago Public Radio.

The event begins at 10 a.m., is free and open to the public and is being held in Delta's Lecture Theater.
