It could have been a little sweeter for the Tri City Icehawks who took to the ice last weekend, against the Motor City Chiefs, October 17, 18, 2009.
The Tri City Icehawks split a pair of games on Saturday and Sunday with Motor City -- losing 5-4 on Saturday in a shootout and coming back on Sunday to claim a 5-2 win behind the hat trick scoring of Eric Tien.
Tien score once in the second period and twice in the final period to pace the Icehawks to the win.
The weekend split improved the Icehawks record to 5-8. The Icehawks have been competitive all season long playing in four games that have gone into extra time.
The Icehawks won their first overtime/shootout against Wisconsin
back on September 12 but have since dropped their last three
shootout/overtime games.
Seth Vandersypen and Matt Komorowski also had goals in the Sunday win over Motor City.
Icehawk goalie Rocco Benvenuti got the win in net for the Icehawks on Sunday stopping 22 of 24 shots by Motorcity.
Tien leads all Icehawk scorers with 16 points (13 games) on seven goals and nine assists. Komorowski and Benjamin Kitts each have nine points in 13 games. Kitts has five goals and four assists while Komorowski has two goals and has assisted on seven goals by his teammates.
