The excitement and hype was in the air at the Michigan Idol FINALS night at the Stables Martini and last Thursday night. 28 contestants entered the eleven week competition.

Birch Run's 17 year old Taylor Vitany won the competition, which included a cash prize and a spot as opening act for the Lynard Skynard Tribute Band, at the Prime Event Center on January 9, 2009.

Second place was Jessica Carrick and Third place was Tommy Hillfiga.

Vitany is a senior at Birch Run High School. Vitany said, "Wining this competition feels awesome. After all the time and effort I put into it, it is very rewarding and I feel like I have achieved another goal."

Vitany continued, "The people at the stables have been like another family to me, and have given me so many more opportunities than I could ever dream of. I just want to thank all the people who supported me and to Tommy Anderson, Josh Sharrow, and George Lynch for making me a better performer."

Michigan Idol Judge George Lynch said, "Tonight's decision was very difficult to come by, the point margin between the top 3 contestants was all within 1 point of each other, the difference between 1st and second was two tenths of a point."

According to Lynch, judges score on a week to week basis based on Appearance, Stage Presence, Vocal Ability, Crowd Reaction, Over All Attitude.

Michigan Idol Judge Tommy Anderson, who has been with the competition for the last couple years, said, "If we could have sent through all three as winners, we would have. They are all winners in my book to some degree. The young ones are going to encounter areas that aren't familiar to them until they perform; then they fix those, and encounter new ones."

Anderson continued "It's all part of growing. The top finalists brought their "A" game Thursday, and have also performed before audiences in the past (a lot). They have had time to fix more mistakes. One score taken from here, and given there (all for the purpose of making the performers aware of their strengths and/or weaknesses) proved who deservedly came out on top."

The Stables Michigan Idol Competition will begin a new 11 week segment on Thursday, December 3, 2009. A new panel of celebrity judges and the continuing host with the most Dougie Dore!
