Bay City began a new chapter in the growth of its vibrant downtown as the Doubletree Hotel and Conference Center officially opened and hosted its first major event.

Following the ribbon cutting, the Chamber of Commerce hosted a sell out crowd for "Bay Area On The Go! A Development Profile". The morning events included two Business Forum presentations, one on "Business Development Incentives" in the area and a second covering "Downtown Development in Bay City".

The luncheon wasthe first major event for the staff of the Doubletree: a sitdown dinner for hundreds of business and civic leaders. The hotel staff did a supurb job handling what had to be a challenging first event. One would have thought the hotel had been open for months rather than for one day.

Following the meal the Keynote Address was given by Don Jakeway, President and CEO of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. Five development awards were then presented by the Chamber to companies who have made significant investments in the Bay Area in recent months.

Two afternoon forums included an update on "Uptown at Rivers' Edge" and a session about the "Valley Center Technology Park". Tours of the hotel were also given, much to everyone's delight.
