Cassandra Johnson has fun behind the bar at BeMo's, 701 S. Madison Ave.
The popular 31-year-old brunette has worked "all over," as she says, including Shot 'n Shell, Last Call, O'Malleys in her 10 years as a bartender. But this job really appeals to her. "It's like running a party," she says.
Perhaps its patrons and supporters like Pat Sweeney, retired construction worker who plays the washboard in bands, and supports the energetic Cassandra for the title of "best bartender" in the upcoming Review Magazine competition.
Mr. Sweeney was among "a bunch of people" who nominated Cassandra for the honor and helped her get the votes to become a finalist.
"You have to like people or you won't like a job like this," she says. "And, you have to be fast on your feet . . . and like cheesy jokes," she cracks, aiming a jibe at the jocular Sweeney.
"But it's really fun and the best job I ever had."
BeMo's has won a couple of awards before in the Review Music Awards and it's clear that its many customers will be pulling for Cassandra at the awards ceremony and celebration Monday, April 26 at 5 p.m. at the Prime Event Center.
