April 7, 2010

The Friends of Celtic Culture, a Great Lakes Bay Region non-profit organization dedicated to the arts and music of the Seven Celtic Nations, was so overwhelmed by the concert reception the Kansas City-based band The Elders received last year that there was no other answer to the fans but to bring them back.
And bring them back we will. The Elders will be appearing on Thursday, April 15, 2010 at the State Theatre, Downtown Bay City, 989-892-2660. $20 tickets are available at the State and also on the FCC Website, friendsofcelticculture.org.
Doors open at 6:30 and the show starts at 7:30. Tickets will also be available at the door the night of the concert.
Take a group of Kansas City musicians with a passion for Celtic music, an Irishman with a love of all things American, and you get the Elders. These six gentlemen create original music that transcends the stereotypical notion of Celtic music, and they deliver it with passion and fire. The songs are mystical, comical, political, and cultural.
They tell us stories of people, places, and events- some distant, some recent, some real, and some imagined. And as Doug Clifton, Program Director KCUV radio in Denver says, ?The Elders are simply the best contemporary Irish band in America.?
The Irishman with a love with all things American is lead singer Ian Byrne. Forming that passion for Celtic music in support of Byrne are Joe Miquelon on keyboards, Steve Phillips, guitar, Norm Dahlor, bass, Brent Hoad, fiddle, and Tommy Sutherland on drums.
