On May 11, 2010, The Downtown Management Board and Development Authority was notified of the grant award received from the Bay Area Community Foundation regarding a $12,000 grant from the Ronald K. & Greta A. McGillivray Saginaw River Improvement Fund.

The grant funds will be used for the purchase and placement of a variety of mature trees in groupings along the paved walkway in Downtown Bay City's Wenonah Park.

The goal is to have the trees planted before the end of June, so they will be in place for the many events that will be taking place in the Park this summer.

Grants awarded by the Bay Area Community Foundation have been a key component in the redevelopment of the riverfront area of Wenonah Park, which is Phase 1 of a planned comprehensive redevelopment of the Park.

Previous grants include $110,000 from the Kantzler Foundation, used for the center terrace area, and $40,000 received from the Russell H. and Maxine E. Smith Foundation to help finance the outdoor furniture placed along the walkway.
