Mayes to Open New Headquarters in Run for Barcia's State Senate Seat
State Rep. Supports Agriculture Education Program to be Established at SVSU

The grand opening and open house of the new Mayes headquarters will be held Monday, June 7 from 6-8 p.m. at the campaign office.
State Senate hopeful Jeff Mayes, Democrat from Bay City, will host a grand opening of his new campaign office at the corner of Center and Washington Avenues in downtown Bay City.

The event is free and open to the public. Cookies and refreshments will be served.
"I look forward to the opportunity to meet and speak with area residents," said Mayes. "I"m eager to continue working on behalf of the community and region to create jobs and improve our economy."
Representative Jeff Mayes has been active in Michigan politics for 20 years and currently serves as Chair of the Energy and Technology Committee.
Rep. Mayes is a graduate of the University of Michigan a previously served as Supervisor of Bangor Township in Bay County.
Last week Mayes voted to support two major projects benefiting Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU) and the Bay Metro Transit Authority. The projects were part of two budget bills that passed the Michigan House.
The plans will support the Bay region by:
Providing Bay Metro Transit Authority with $40,000 to purchase new equipment and renovate existing facilities.
Establishing an agriculture education program at SVSU. The $300,000 program will help educate students about one of Michigan's most important industries.
The funding for SVSU was included in the School Aid budget. The Bay Metro program, which is supported by entirely federal funds, passed as part of a multi-departmental budget bill.
"Saginaw Valley is one of our state's great universities, and this plan will help them expand their curriculum to offer more choices to our residents," said Rep. Mayes, who is also the former chair of the House Agriculture Committee.
"Agriculture is a multi-billion dollar part of our state's economy and we have to ensure that we are training the next generation of farmers and producers to grow this vital industry here in Michigan."
He is currently running to replace State Senator Jim Barcia who cannot seek re-election due to term limits. The senate district includes Arenac, Bay, Huron, Sanilac and Tuscola Counties.
