Bay City has two farmers markets, the Bay County Market at 108 Adams St. and Downtown Bay City Farmers Market at Washington and 6th.
This first week of August marks two great local food and farmers market event weeks: National Farmers Market Week and Buy Michigan Week.
Bay City has two farmers markets, the Bay County Market at 108 Adams St., open for produce Tuesdays and Thursdays 2-8 p.m., and the Downtown Bay City Farmers Market, open Tuesdays and Thursdays 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Washington Avenue and Sixth Street.
The Midland Farmers Market, at the Tridge, is open Wednesdays and Saturdays 7 a.m. to 12 noon.
Saginaw also has two farmers markets, one at the Saginaw County Fairgrounds Tuesday and Friday 7 a.m. - 1 p.m., and Saturday 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.; the Saginaw Downtown market at James and Franklin is Monday, Wednesday and Friday 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Governor Jennifer Granholm has proclaimed August 2-8, 2010 as Buy Michigan Week to encourage people to discover, celebrate and
monetarily support Michigan businesses.
Buy Michigan Now is encouraging people to make a plan to visit a farmers market, find a local supplier for things bought from out of state, and come to the Buy Michigan Now Festival from August 6-8 in Downtown Northville.
"The Buy Michigan Now campaign is about heightening awareness and revitalizing our state's economy one product, one purchase, and
one business at a time," said Lisa Diggs of Buy Michigan Now.
"We are very excited to be working with Northville to celebrate Buy Michigan Week. Their vibrant art, restaurant, and retail community is representative of great towns all over the state, and provides an ideal showcase for the bright spots in Michigan?s blossoming new economy," said Ms. Diggs.

United States Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack has proclaimed August 1-7, 2010 as National Farmers Market Week.
This year marks the 11th annual National Farmers Market Week. Since the USDA began declaring National Farmers Market Week in 2000, the number of farmers markets has almost doubled, from 2,863 markets in 2000 to 5,274 in 2009.
According to the USDA, there are approximately 6,000 farmers markets operating in the country in 2010 and more than 220 operating in Michigan.
"Farmers markets are good for you for health, good for your community, and good for the economy." says Stacy Miller, Executive
Director of the Farmers Market Coalition, a nonprofit supporting farmers markets across the country.
