A Fantastic Weekend Full of Festivities at Labadie Pig Gig

It was a Fantastic Weekend Full of Festivities and Rib tasting at the annual Labadie Pig Gig Presented by State Farm held in Bay City's Veteran's Memorial Park August 5-8, 2010.

The 2010 Championship Rib Cook-off is the setting for national competitors vying for the title of "The Best in the Midwest". Rib Champions from around the country and even from around the world participated in the best Pigalicious summer event of the year.

The Forecast for the weekend; SUPER - FANTASTIC !!!!!!! Area Family Charities and DoreAble Entertainment, Inc. were blessed with beautiful weather every day during the four-day Rib Event. It was Bay City summer weather at it's best.

2010 Rib Competitors included:
  • Aussom Aussie, from Sydney Australia
  • BBQ Masters from Atlanta, GA
  • Big Boned BBQ, from Hixson, TN
  • Billy Bones BBQ from Red Keg, MI
  • Famous Dave's from Saginaw, MI
  • Smokin Joe's Hog Wild BBQ from Mansfield, OH
  • Touch of Smoke BBQ from Plymouth, MI
  • Two Fat Guys BBQ from Massillon, OH
  • Willinghams World Champions BBQ, Memphis, TN




  • New this year to the event - "When Pigs Fly" -- was one of the most exciting moments of the weekend.

    On Sunday, Wendy Dore, flew over the Labadie Pig Gig in a Helicopter and dropped over 500 piggies, over a target. Piggies were numbered and purchased earlier . . . and if your piggie was closest to the target, then you were a winner.

  • Top prize was $1500.00 for closest (1st)
  • (2nd) $250.00
  • (3rd) $150.00
  • and even $150 for furtherest from target.
  • Rest of proceeds went to local charity. (Pictures Below)

    (Above) A 20 year veteran of the International BBQ Circuit, Paul "Aussom Aussie" MacKay started competing in BBQ contests in 1988. Winning the biggest and best contests in USA and Canada including the Great American Rib Cook-Off, Best in the West and winning 150 awards for best BBQ - Aussom Aussie is at the top of his game.


    (Above) Big Boned BBQ from Hixon, TN. made their debut in Bay City. Father and son team, John and Patrick Nelson have been professionally cooking BBQ for the past 13 years. Big Boned BBQ has won the title Best Ribs in Indiana and Pennsylvania and had their many trophies on display.


    (Above) This rotating pig traveled from Frankenmuth to be on display, it may be recognized from the move 'whip it' starring Drew Barrymore


    Mary, Kayla and Jolie sell tickets for the Pigalicious Food demonstrations. Jolie White explained, "If they draw your number you got to eat whatever the chef made for that hour." The ladies also sold tickets for The 1927 Bugatti "Type 35B" Replica. (Pictured Below)



    The 1927 Bugatti "Type 35B" Replica. The drawing for this fundraiser will be held on September 9, 2010 at the State Theater's Taste & Theatrics annual event. The car was generously donated by Tom McDonald of Saginaw.

    (Above) The Famous Pig Racing, six individual pig races were held each day lasting approximately 25 minutes each. local charity was host to the races with all proceeds donated to that non-profit charity.
