Motor City Chiefs Sweep Weekend Series With Tri City IceHawks

Following a tough game Saturday night to the Chiefs, Tri City was looking for a little redemption. But when you are struggling with a roster with fresh faces replacing injured and departed players, redemption is hard to find when you are facing the second place team. That point was made perfectly clear when the Chiefs scored thirty seconds into the game and kept on scoring as they swept the Icehawks in their weekend series, 11-1.

Hope springs eternal and with a couple new faces to help out, the Icehawks were optimistic of an different game. But thirty seconds into the game, The Chief's Calvin Ball skated down the right side of the ice and found teammate streaking toward the backdoor and with a tape to tape pass Ryan Brown had his Chiefs up 1-0.

Goalie Alex Montagano and his teammates stiffened playing inspired hockey and a lot more tie them up defense. At the half way point of the first period, Chief's Vincent Rossi found himself open in front of the net where he fired a shot that was stopped but he was there to pick up the rebound and drive it home opening a 2-0 lead.

The scoring barrage continued as Motor City tallied three more times before Ben Kitts picked up Justin Lacy's rebound putting the Icehawks on the board at 5-1.

The scoring didn't stop for the Chiefs as they tallied three more times in the second and third period on way to a 11-1 win. What also didn't stop is the effort the Icehawks continued to put out on the ice. Clearly with the influx of new faces, the Icehawks are not yet on the same page as the Chiefs are. But after two days of being badly outscored, Coach Slater still has his team working hard which means good things are on the horizon.

The Icehawks travel to Wooster, Ohio next week for a three game weekend series. They return home Saturday, October 23 to take on the Michigan Ice Dogs at 7:30 pm.
