SPOOKY NIGHT IN BAY CITY

Night at the Temple haunted house and Rocky Horror Picture Show

October 30, 2010
By: Stephen Kent

For those who like spooky Halloween fare, downtown Bay City was the place to be Saturday Night.

The Bay Arts Council closed the run for their third annual haunted house at the old Masonic Temple downtown. Titled "Night at the Temple", this year's show was a series of Bay City ghost stories told in a museum setting. Tour guides walked groups through the historic old building and related local legends and tales. A large group of Bay City students provided the cast of characters with ghoulish costumes, sudden appearances, and plenty of screams.

Later in the evening the State Theater presented the Rocky Horror Picture show to an audience dressed the part for the famous cult movie. The 1975 film became a cult phenomenon in 1977 when midnight showings attracted large audiences who dressed the parts and sang along with the songs. The movie was a launch pad for a number of now famous actors including Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick and Tim Curry. The film continues to enjoy revivals and is a favorite Halloween treat at theaters like the State.
