The Bay County Board of Commissioners will meet Tuesday at 4 p.m. to levy property tax millages for various county services.

Levies to be under consideration are:

Bay County fixed -- 5.7257; library, 0.9953; senior citizens, 0.5; 911, 0.7; historical society, 0.0952; medical care facility, 0.5; mosquito control, 0.45; library, 1.0.

The 74th District Court has been awarded a $130,000 grant for Treatment Court operations. Funds come from the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant administered through the state court administrator's office.

Commissioners will be asked to accept the grant and continue operations of the Treatment Court, a drug rehabilitation program that is highly praised by judges and law enforcement officials.

While no cash match is required, the amount is $5,000 less than last year's grant, said Kim Brian Mead, 74th District Court administrator. The reduced amount will not significantly affect the Treatment Court operations, Mead said.

Sheriff John W. Miller is seeking approval for continuation of the Bay Area Narcotics Enforcement Team (BAYANET), and allocation of $32,353 in matching funds for a $64,706 Byrne grant.

The grant pays for assignment of a deputy sheriff to BAYANET during the grant period.

The Byrne grant program is administered through the Michigan Department of Community Health Office of Drug Control Policy.
