The Saginaw River Marine Historical Society presents "An Evening with Dennis Hale"

The program starts at 7 p.m. Saturday, November 20 at First Presbyterian Church, 805 Center Ave. Admission is FREE but donations are welcome.

Twenty-six year old Dennis Hale, a watchman, was the only survivor of the Daniel J. Morrell, a freighter that broke in two and sank in Lake Huron off of Michigan's Thumb on November 29, 1966, killing 28 shipmates. Hear Dennis talk about his struggle to stay alive for 38 hours on a life raft after the boat's sinking. Dennis will sign copies of his two books at the end of the night's program and will have books available for sale.

The evening will begin with 30 minutes of maritime music by Hoolie, an internationally-acclaimed trio that specializes in maritime music, songs and stories of the Great Lakes.

The Saginaw River Marine Historical Society will also hold its annual memorial at 4 p.m. on Nov. 20 honoring sailors from the Saginaw Valley who have lost their lives. This short ceremony will be held at the waterfall park on the Saginaw River at the end of Third Street in downtown Bay City. Following the memorial, anyone interested is welcome to join SRMHS members for dinner at the Kingfish Restaurant, 1019 N. Water St.
