Great rivalries bring out the best in effort in both teams. While the execution may not be as planned, the emotion and determination makes for an exciting game. Such was the case when Garber and John Glenn met Tuesday night on the Dukes basketball court.

Tight defense and high adrenaline led to tough scoring chances in the early minutes of the game. As each team developed a rhythm, shots began to drop. Garber used a high pressure half court defense to try and keep the Bobcat offense from getting on track. But the Bobcats countered with a fast break offense, rapid ball movement and a full court press to build a 21 to 17 first quarter lead.

Play slowed in the second quarter as aggressive play led to foul trouble. Glenn took advantage of their free throws by knocking down 7 throws from the charity stripe to Garber's three. The difference helped the Bobcats to build a 35 to 28 half time lead.

The teams employed contrasting styles to start the second half. Glenn worked a perimeter offense using rapid ball movement to spread the Duke defense out as they looked for open shots. The scrappy Garber defense kept Glenn from pulling away with strong rebounding and deflected passes. The Glenn defense match the Duke effort by shutting down Garber's attempts to drive the basket. But it was Garber's persistence that helped them narrow Glenn's lead to four as they trailed 43 to 39 at the end of the third quarter.

John Glenn exploded to start the fourth quarter by going on an 11-0 run in the first three minutes of play. Garber responded by shutting down the Bobcat attack and going on a a 10-1 run themselves narrowing the score to 55-49 with under two minutes remaining. Glenn went to a ball control offense burning nearly a minute off the clock before Garber was able to foul a player. The score and foul technique was not enough to allow Garber to climb back into the game as John Glenn pulled out a 60-52 cross town rivalry win.

Kyle Schlink led the Bobcats with 22 points with Bradley Wyman adding 15.

The Dukes were led by forward Nick Whitney who scored 25 points while Tyler Schroeder and Jon Nuenke each added 7.
