September marks the height of salmon season in many Michigan rivers. The annual Fall spawning run in the Pere Marquette River, a tributary that spills into Lake Michigan, is underway on the West side of the state. Mark DeSanto of Essexvilleand Dan Schmidt of Kawkawlin, recently spent a successful day of fly fishing on the Pere Marquette.Below:(Right) Mark DeSanto battles a King Salmon in the Pere Marquette River (Left) The Chinook Salmon tires of the battle and comes to the surface.
