John Hay is First Topic; April Dinner to Feature Abe Lincoln Re-enactor

Fred and Bonnie Priebe, re-enactors from Belleville, appear before school groups all over the state.
Abe Lincoln will be the topic of the first and last programs of the season for the 7th Michigan Cavalry Civil War Round Table, Bay Area, (CWRT).
Attorney Bob Sarow, a Lincoln scholar, will begin the season Wednesday, October 20 with a presentation on John Hay, Lincoln's personal secretary and co-author of a biography on the Great Emancipator with John Nicolay, an associate in the Lincoln White House.
All programs except the season-ending dinner are held at 7 p.m. at the Lincoln Center of Bay Regional Medical Center, 820 S. Lincoln Ave. Reservations may be made by contacting Dee Dee Wacksman, 892-1136.
Fred Priebe, of Belleville, a familiar figure at the annual River of Time living history program in VeteransMemorial Park, will cap the season with a presentation at the April 20 Civil War Dinner in the Stein Haus, 1108 N. Water St.
Priebe appears in period dress and bears a remarkable resemblance to the nation's revered 16th President. The local program will be held in honor of the 140th anniversary of the death of the Civil War President, slain by assassin John Wilkes Booth on April 14, 1865.
The November 17 program will be on the John Hunt Morgan Ohio Raid, presented by Dee DeeWacksman.
January 19 will feature Dave Rogers with the Birney family's connection to the Civil War.
On February 16 Tim Younkman, Bay City Times reporter and history specialist, will report on a Bay Cityan who headed the Union Army's railroad construction and on a Kentucky family that divided along Blue and Gray lines.
Noted local conductor Leo Najar will take the CWRT podium on Mar. 16 with a presentation on Civil War music.
Persons interested in the Civil War and the history of the nation, especially students, are urged to attend the educational programs of the CWRT.
"Be part of local history and learn about our Civil War history and the role played by residents and soldiers fromthe greater Bay Area, Michigan and the Nation," says Mrs. Wacksman, chairperson of the Round Table.
