Mayor's Annual Clean Up Day Successful
April 17, 2011
By: Stephen Kent

The Mayor's Annual Clean Up Day was held Saturday, April 16 from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. Locations on the east and west sides were manned Citizens District Council (CDC) by member and city employees.
Despite a light rain and blustery winds, the event was a great success. "We're about out of info packets" said Lee Techlin later in the afternoon. The packets included pens and pencils, electric plug safety covers, information sheets for Bay City Electrics "Energy Smart Program", and a handy Energy Saver calculator card.
Other free items included new plastic recycling tubs, and six free CFL (compact fluorescent light) bulbs.
People were also encouraged to recycle old, inefficient air conditioners, dehumidifiers, refrigerators and freezers. The appliances had to be in working condition. Bay City Electric customers received $20 for the AC's and $30 for fridges and freezers.
Among the items accepted were:
non-broken CFL bulbs, rechargeable batteries, furniture,
mattresses and box springs,
carpets, toys, bicycles, barbecue grills and pipes.
For what it's worth, at least one four foot tall stuffed White Rabbit was seen in the dumpsters.
