The National "Doubles" Paddleball Championship was held in San Diego, Ca. April 16 &17. The Sorrento Valley Racquetball Center hosted 47 teams compete for national titles in 8 divisions.

The 2011 National Paddleball Doubles Champs are Mike Wisniewski (Bay City, MI) and Todd Entrikin (San Diego, CA) which won the title in a round-robin shoot-out 21-10, 21-11.

In the top division "Mens' Open," the stage was set for the shoot-out when four teams played for the trophy in a round robin format.

When the dust settled on Sunday, there was a messy 3-way tie for first place. The players decided to play each other one game to 21 "winner takes all" in the mini slugfest. Finishing in third place was Andy Mitchell (Kalamazoo) and Mike Czabala (Los Angles, formerly from Bay City). Earning 2nd place was the 2010 defending champs from Bay City, Chad Krager, and his partner from Chicago, Dennis Negrete.

The team of Krager/Negrete did salvage the week-end by winning a National title undefeated in the Seniors division (35+).

In the Golden Masters Division (55+) Bay City's Randy Wackerle and long-time friend Jim Owens (Ann Arbor) shot their way into the finals on Sunday. San Diego's legendary racquetball/paddleball player and currently the 2011 National Singles Champ, Charlie Brumfield, teamed with Bob Sterken (South Haven) to defeat Wackerle/Owens 21-16, 21-11 in a hard fought match.

Wackerle, a member of the Bay County Sports Hall of Fame, has been absent from the tournament scene for two years with knee problems but credits his comeback to lots of hard work, some God-given skills and an experimental paddle designed by Bay City's Earl Pratt.
