The YWCA Board of Directors along with the Bay Area, Midland and Saginaw Chambers of Commerce recently joined together in a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the new offices of the Women's Resource Center in Downtown Bay City.
The YWCA Women's Center is occupying two units in the building located at the Southwest corner of Center and Washington -- Formerly the home of the Sherman Shoe Store.
Ribbon-Cutting was at 4pm this past Wednesday and an Open House followed where beverages and food were served.
YWCA is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.
The YWCA Great Lakes Bay Region is a leadership organization providing empowerment for women and girls to achieve economic self-sufficiency and advocacy for social justice in the Great Lakes Bay Region.
YWCA took up residence in the northeast corner of the Phoenix Building - an office complex on the corner of Center and Washington - just after the new year, having spent the last year and a half in the United Way of Bay County office. Grills said they hope to have their new space fully furnished and unpacked by early next month .
According to a quote in the Bay City Times, "We found that the expense of maintaining the pool and the fitness center at our previous location was really taking away from our core programs," Grills said. "Nationally, the organization is divesting in fitness centers and moving more towards missions offices or women's shelters," she went on. "This is going to be a wonderful transition."
