Among participants as a sesquicentennial plaque from the Michigan Historical Society was dedicated Memorial Day, Monday, May 30, at Historic Pine Ridge Cemetery, Bay City, are, (Top Photo) from left, Dee Dee Wacksman, trustee of Delta College; Jeremiah Franks, of the Naval Sea Cadet Corps, Saginaw; Marvin Kusmierz, Bay-Journal.com local history website; Alan Flood, Bay County Historical Society volunteer; and Patsy Powell, executive director of New Dimensions, Inc., non-profit community group. The Rotary Club of Bay City helped provide the signage and other improvements through its community grants program.(Bottom Photo) Students at work. The cemetery dates to 1858 when it was established by Judge James Birney, lieutenant governor of Michigan in 1860. It is the burial ground for Judge Birney's family and more than 150 Civil War veterans and is the location of a Grand Army of the Republic monument.
