1st place prize is $1,500.00

August 2, 2011
By: Julie McCallum, Entertainment Editor

This is the 2nd year for the successful 'When Pigs Fly' fundraiser, which is held during the 2011 Labadie Pig Gig Presented by State Farm, Co-Sponsored by Covenant Health Care & John P. O'Sullivan Distributing in Vet's Park Bay City - August 4-7, 2011.

This gives benefiting charities the opportunity to sell raffle tickets that will have corresponding numbers to little plastic piggies.

The raffle tickets will be sold for $10.00 each. 20% of each ticket will go to the selling charity. Our goal is to sell 1000 tickets. (For ticket information call 714-8167)

The numbered piggies will be placed in a bucket and dropped from a helicopter over the festival grounds on Sunday, August 8, 2011 at approximately 5:00 p.m.

The numbered piggy that lands or comes closest to the "pig pen" (golf type hole) will win the prize money. In case of a tie, the money will be divided equally.

The prize structure will be as follows:
  • 1st place - $1,500.00
  • 2nd place - $200.00
  • 3rd place - $150.00
  • Furthest Away - $150.00

  • *If ticket revenue is not reached to pay out prizes listed above, the prize money will be paid on 50% of the ticket sales.

This is a great media opportunity to highlight the community fundraising and also a chance to showcase your station's involvement.

Participating Charities include: Area 9 Special Olympics, Benefit 4 Kids, Boys & Girls Clubs of Bay City, Cory Place, HR Doud Division Sea Cadets, Literacy Council, Nathan Weidner CAC, Santa House, and Special Days Camps, Bridging the Gap, Essexville-Hampton Lions, Crime Stoppers and The Saginaw Valley Air Museum.
