The Friends of Celtic Culture, a Great Lakes Bay Region non-profit organization dedicated to promotion of the music of the Seven Celtic Nations, is wrapping up its fourth and final concert of Season 2011 with a five-member Canadian band that presents Celtic music with an attitude.

Rant Maggie Rant will be appearing at the State Theatre, 913 Washington Avenue, Bay City, at 7:30 p.m., doors open at 6:30, on Saturday, October 22, 2011. $20 tickets are available at the State, 989-892-2660, friendsofcelticculture.org, or at the door the night of the concert.

Adult beverages will be available.

Bandleader and multi-instrumentalist, Mark Fletcher, assembled this wonderful band of seasoned musicians. From the get-go, his instincts were to go out and find musicians who had never really played Celtic music before. He wanted to try something a little bit different. Much of the Celtic music repertoire had been played the same way for decades, in some cases centuries. He wanted to use traditional music as the foundation, but push the envelope. Through this approach, the music of Rant Maggie Rant has taken the listener by surprise, proving that his instincts were right on target.

Fletcher enlisted fiddler Lindsay Schindler. The two agreed that a lush percussion component was necessary for the songs they wanted to play. Master percussionist Rob Larose came on board. They also wanted a dynamic front person to take on lead vocals, and they turned to Glen Dias.

Finally a chance meeting led Fletcher to roots-oriented singer-songwriter Barry James Payne for the necessary guitar component and backing vocals. Stratford, Ontario's Rant Maggie Rant was now complete and ready to go on the road to perform at Celtic festivals and concert halls in Canada and the USA to WOW their audiences, which they have done for the last three years.
