Doubletree Hosts 21st Annual Hall of Fame Ceremony

A full house of family members and sports enthusiasts gathered for the 21st Annual Bay County Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony at the Doubletree Hotel in Downtown Bay City.

Master of Ceremonies Mike Gwizdala "masterfully" had everything under control as 8 individuals along with the Bay City Central 1969 Class A State Champion football team and the Pickle Barrel 1971 Class D Fastpitch softball team were inducted.

Kimberly Biskup, Adolph Begick, Stan Bromberg, Dick Corcoran, Brent Goik, Ken Meylan, Doug Ruterbusch and Dr. Michelle Voisin Ivey were all inducted.

Dave Rogers, original member of the Bay County Sports HOF Board of Directors received the prestigious Hall of Fame "President's Award" for his on-going service to the Hall of Fame community effort.

Manager Tom Newcombe spoke for the Pickle Barrel State Champs and John Engle introduced the Bay City Central football players and reminisced about the success of the team -- some 42 years ago. In addition, $750 scholarships were awarded to Kevin Swiercz (All Saints), Stuart Starkweather (BCC), Olivia Schultz (Garber), Brianna Williams (John Glenn), Chelsea Adcock (Pinconning) and Mallory Sebald (Western). The Scholarship Program is in its 17th year.

The Honorable Tim Kelly sang the National Anthem and Sister Mary Epple (RSM) of St. Mary's gave the Invocation.

Bay City Mayor Chris Shannon was on hand to read a proclamation making Sunday, October 9, 2011 -- Hall of Fame Day in Bay City.



Sister Mary Epple (RSM) gave the Invocation.



Pickle Barrel players are recognized for their accomplishment.



The 1969 Bay City Central Football Players are honored.
