Avram Golden knows the struggles that local food pantries face during the month of January.

That is the reason Golden set out to make it his personal mission to turn the January 1st Thursday Gallery Walk into a community food drive.

Golden is owner of Avram Golden Photography at 113 Third St. and founder of the 1st Thursday Gallery Walk in downtown Bay City. The Gallery Walk has become a Downtown Bay City Staple since its beginning in 2005.

"This is actually the 3rd year we've done a food drive." Golden said. "I'd like this to be a statewide event where we are making canned food sculptures involving top artists and prize money to bring people from all over the state to Downtown Bay City!".

"Next year we would love to get the local grocery stores more involved," Golden added. "Maybe have some Michigan-based food companies help create a statue based on their company."

Candace Bales, who serves as Executive Director of The Downtown Bay City Management Board & Development Authority.

"Avram has done an outstanding job with the 1st Thursday Gallery walks, and he works diligently to put the spotlight on Downtown Bay City," said Bales. "Avram truly is an example of what Downtown Bay City is all about."

The next 1st Thursday Gallery Walk takes place February 2nd!
