Tsunami Death Toll Mounts in Southeast Asia

USA Corporations Dig Deep into Pockets to Assist With Relief Funding

It's been just two weeks since the giant tsunami wave swept across Southeast Asia - Death Toll creeps toward 150,000

For many of us in mid Michigan, it is hard to imagine the devastation associated with the tsunami wave that swept across Southeast Asia just two weeks ago.

The current tsunami death toll of at least 150,000 is likely to rise to a quarterof a million, and preventing further deaths and rebuilding the areas hardest hit could take many years.

Bay County has (according to the 2000 census) a population just over 110,00. It's difficult to imagine a natural disaster that could, withone blow, obliterate such a large number of human lives.

Corporate America has joined forces with government agencies to send relief to the devastated areas. Corporate contributions are just one piece of a large and complex collage of aid. Governments of numerous countries and international organizations have pledged at least $3.45 billion, according to a tally by the Associated Press. That includes a donation of $350 million by the United States.

If you're looking for a way to help, click HERE to find a list of agencies that can direct your donation through the proper channels. This list is provided courtesy of a Google web source.

The link below was sent to me by MyBayCity subscriber Jon Potrykus. It is a link to a series of 14 sets of images that graphically convey the breadth of the tsunami devastation.

Here is the Link To Tsunami Photos.

The "Before/After" button toggles the image between the "Before" and "After" satellite photos. You can also toggle the image by clicking on the image itself. The "PREV" and "NEXT" links will take you to the previous or next image set ... there are 14 sets in this series.

Our hearts and prayers go out to all of the victims.
