Garden Club Celebrates 75th Anniversary
Secret Gardens of Bay County Tour To Fund Library Reading Garden

A look through the formal English garden at Asbury's Garden provides breathtaking charm
The Bay City Garden Club promotes interest in horticulture, conservation, civic beautification and the artistic use of plant material. The Club is a member of the Garden Club of America. Over the past 75 years, the Club has supported many local civic improvement projects. These include: the Chickadee Nature Trail for the disabled (located at Bay City State Park); the Kantzler Riverfront Arboretum, Bay County's first arboretum, located at Veteran's Memorial Park; the Kantzler Arboetum's "Learning Tree" program for the Boy & Girl Scouts; the Heritage Garden at the Trombley Centre House; the Play by the Bay Playscape located at the Bay City State Recreation Area and the Bay Area Ice Arena. . The 2002 Secret Gardens of Bay County tourwas a fund-raiser for the "Outdoor Reading Garden" proposed to be a part of the new Bay Coutny Central Library planned next year on Center Ave in downtown Bay City. Nine local gardens were featured on the tour held Tuesday June 25th between the hours of noon and 7:00pm. Trolly service provided transportation and volunteers manned information bothst at each stop to provide assistance and refreshments to garden viewers. Featured Gardens included: Alice & Bob Miller, Cedar Lane, Bay CityTrombley-Centre House, Bay CityDebbie & Steve Ingersoll, Center Ave, Bay CityTerry Zajac, 5th Street, Bay CityAnne & Kurt Asbury, 6th Street, Bay CityLaura Patterson & Bob Gruber.
