Things were buzzing around Dow Diamond on Monday April 9th as the Great Lakes Loons opened the home part of their schedule. A great parade started the day off traveling threw downtown Midland with over 2,000 people watching the new Loons. The parade featured several floats touting the new season.

The Loons came into the game coming off a 3 game losing streak to the Lansing Lugnuts over the holiday weekend. However the crowd was buzzing as the game started. The Lake County Captains (Cleveland Indians) would be the opponent in the first home game. The Loons are coming off an average season in 2011 but would only field 2 players from the previous year. The Loons will have a few high draft choices on their roster for the 2012 season.

The other buzz around Dow Diamond about this Los Angeles Dodgers affiliate was the new ownership of the Dodgers that includes Earvin "Magic" Johnson. The Lake County Captains jumped all over Loons starter Gustavo Gomez en route to a 8-0 victory in front of a good crowd at the Dow.

On a rather cool night with strong winds blowing from left field to right field through-out the game, it made for a chilly evening. However the crowd enjoyed being back at the Dow for the first time in 2012.

Team President Paul Barbeau was beaming through the evening showing off the renovations up on the Suite Level. All in all things got off to a good start at the Dow and promises to be an interesting summer in the Class A Midwest League.
