Michigan Idol Season 4 kicked off this past Wednesday at the Willew in Bay City.

Michigan Idol Season 3 winner Joey Atchinson opened up the night by performing for the Willew crowd. After his performance, he took his seat as a brand new judge for Michigan Idol. A seat that has been repositioned directly in front of the performers, as opposed to off to the side as it was in previous seasons.

"I think the judges being repositioned to the front of the stage helps a lot," said guest judge Heather Emmons, "you can hear everything so much better, and really feel the performances."

Last season, there were 22 individuals that were qualified to win the grand prize. This season may have a little catching up to do to reach that number, but the contestants still brought their best to the opening night.

One contestant, Jesse Fisher, has been around since season one. "I haven't missed a single night," said Fisher of his attendance record, "not even the first game for the (Red Wings) playoffs could keep me away." Fisher got a chance to sing Journey's Don't Stop Believing as the Wings were down 0-1 in the first period of Wednesday's game. "That was one hundred percent intentional," Jesse added.

Other Michigan Idol veterans, Morgan and Paige Hawkins, were also in attendance for the competition. Morgan Hawkins has placed in the top 5 in two of the previous three seasons and is a favorite heading in to the coming weeks.

This season, contestants can win a brand new Schwinn Hope 50 Scooter provided by Steven's Cycle of Bay City.So far, the Schwinn Hope program has helped raise over $100,000 for a very worth cause. A portion of every sale supports breast cancer awareness and research.

In order to qualify to win the grand prize, contestants must be present in at least 5 of the 10 weeks of competition. The judges will combine the participant's top 5 scores to determine the winner at the end of the 10 weeks.

Michigan Idol Season 4 is a ten (10) week competition that will run until June 13th, 2012. Contestants must be present at least 5 of the 10 weeks to qualify for the Schwinn Hope 50 Scooter courtesy of Steven's Cycle of Bay City. Warm-ups start at 7PM every Wednesday at the Willew with the competition starting around 8PM.
