Cat Hyland
Cat Hyland is the new hotel general manager of the 250 room Bay Valley Resort, which has seen a number of missions and uses over the years. The latest venture will combine the traditional hotel and conference center with golf facilities, with an international school. Cat will be in charge of the hotel side but was able to share some of the school mission with Rotarians.

The resort plans began with the purchase of the facility in 2011. Renovations are underway now. The hotel, banquet and hotel functions will remain much as they were but with new focus and leadership.

The educational arm will dedicate a section of the facility to housing and classes for an international student population that wants to study in the US. The students are anticipated to be children of well off parents who can afford to send their kids to a foreign school.

The ten primary investors include US and foreign individuals. They all come from an academic background. The group has six international schools now, three in Shanghai, one in Jakarta, one in South Africa, and one in Indonesia.

While the hotel and conference center is progressing now, plans for the Bay Valley school are evolving. The school is anticipated to have a college preparation curriculum with students also taking advantage of the various educations offerings of the local area.

It is anticipated that the income from the school will subsidize the hotel. The investors chose the site in part for the golf course, which Asians are very fond of. Citing the Planetarium, the Library, shops, restaurants, and other local benefits, Hyland called the Bay City area a jewel and a well kept secret. "Asian parents want their children educated in the US" said Hyland. The Bay Valley International school will offer that opportunity.
