It was "business as usual" at Old City Hall on Thursday night as the annual Downtown Divas' weekend festivities kicked off with a cocktail party in the newly opened "BACK ROOM" at the fashionable Saginaw Street restaurant.

Diva Weekend!
And . . . It was all about FASHION.

Event organizer, Candace Bales, executive director of the Bay City Downtown Management Board and Downtown Development Authority, said she was thoroughly pleased with the turnout of local "Female Fashionistas."

"This new room at Old City Hall is the perfect setting to kick off the Divas' weekend," Bales smiled, looking over the jam-packed Old City Hall "BACK ROOM."

Bales went on to say that activities run through May 13 and that this is a very special weekend full of special events and activities in Downtown Bay City -- For and about women -- Designed to help celebrate the inner Diva in all women in Bay City!

According to Bales, Downtown Divas love Downtown Bay City and special Diva happenings are taking place all over town during the long weekend. "It's all about the ladies with Diva Fashion Events planned throughout the weekend," Bales went on. "It's the perfect event where girlfriends can stroll, shop, and dine - and get away from it all," Bales continued.

Old City Hall's Tony Jeske was equally thrilled with the Thursday night turnout. "The Diva Event is our first OFFICIAL organized activity in the new BACK ROOM," Jeske said. Old City Hall featured meatballs, beef sirloin tips, a variety of vegetable and dip combinations as well as a selection of cocktails and martini drinks. "It's the perfect event for OCH," Jeske said. "When you think of fashion, think of Old City Hall," Jeske said.

Live models, dressed in hip fashion styles and wearing accessories from local, participating Downtown Bay City boutiques walked among the tables of event participants . . . answering questions about their fashion statement. The models displayed small signs to let Divas know where their similar fashion might be available for purchase.

Uptown Girls Susan Howell and Angie Scherzer were enjoying the Thursday evening event. "I work in downtown Bay City, I shop in downtown Bay City and I eat regularly in downtown Bay City restaurants," said Howell. "We're having a great time."

Kimberly Moody of Little House and one of the beautiful models for the event was all smiles. "This is either my 7th or 8th time participating in this event," Moody said. "It's just a lot of fun with a beautiful group of people and it's a another great way to get our Little House product line into the public eye."
