Bay County Library System Summer Reading Program

June 10, 2012
By: O. J. Cunningham

It's the library's biggest time of the year!

Summer Reading Program at the Bay County Library System runs June 11 through August 11.

This year boasts another action packed lineup of performers, special events and, of course, PRIZES! Similar themes that emphasize ways in which reading expands minds and fosters the imagination are chosen for each of children's, teen and adult programs.

This year, children ages birth through grade 6 will "Dream Big - READ," teens in grades 6 through 12 will "Own the Night" and adults will read "Between the Covers." While supplies last, everyone who signs up will receive a newly designed earth-friendly book bag, courtesy of the Friends of the Bay County Libraries.

Please note that all reading logs must be turned in by closing on August 11. Some prizes must be picked up by August 11. More information is available at your branch library. Children (birth-grade 6) - After completing the first reading log, each child may choose a free book. Children who continue to read beyond the first log (8 reading hours or 24 books) may fill out additional logs (4 reading hours or 12 books each).

For every additional log completed, children are entered into a prize drawing. Also, look for the Design-A-Bookmark contest for grades K-6 in July! Teens (grades 6-12) - Complete the teen reading log by reading 16 hours. Return your log, receive a free book and have your name entered in a drawing for a Kindle Fire! Also, you are invited to enter the Amazing Race!

Each week you will have two tasks to complete, after which you will have your passport stamped. Complete the tasks from all eight countries and your name will be entered in a drawing for a gift card! Adults - Complete a reading log by reading 8 hours. Return your log to have your name entered in a drawing for a gift card (3 winners per branch) and one system grand prize of a Sony eReader!

In addition to prizes and incentives, the Bay County Library System has a full lineup of workshops, performers, movies, concerts and other fantastic events!

There's something for every age group such as Martina Hahn's incredible speed painting, live animals from the Organization for Bat Conservation, drawing Manga with Mark Crilley, the Sloan Museum's hands-on robotic programs, interactive concerts with folk artist group Jackie & Gary, and much more!
