Your weekly movie roundup.

Watching movies has been one of America's favorite pastimes ever since the first feature film debuted back in 1911.

Movies have: (1) allowed people to escape their realities and forget their troubles for hours at a time, (2) provided immeasurable amounts of laughter and tears, (3) scared us to the point of leaving the lights on, (4) brought friends and families together, and (5) taught us all valuable life lessons.

They've (movies) also allowed us to experience so many of our favorite stories and characters from other mediums brought to life in front of us. From Lord of the Rings, to The Avengers, to The Hunt For Red October, to The Godfather, to Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, and so many others.

And that's why I'm so excited to be able to bring this new weekly feature column to the MyBayCity audience. Each and every week I'll be letting you know what movies are coming out during the upcoming weekend, and which ones you'll want to spend your hard-earned money on.

I'll also be including some facts (you may not know) about the movies, providing full length reviews, and other various segments from week to week . . . so keep your eyes peeled for that.

So without further ado, (FANFARE PLAYS), here are this weekend's new releases and when you can see them in a theater near you.

My personal recommendation for this weekend, if you can only see one movie, would be to see The Amazing Spider-Man on Tuesday July 3rd. It was honestly a tough choice, since I'm fairly certain that Ted is goingt to be absolutely hilarious, as I have complete faith in Seth MacFarlane. However, the trailers for The Amazing Spider-Man make it look like this is the movie that the original 2001 film should have been. Garfield looks to be both a fantastic Pete Parker and Spider-Man, and I love that they are including Pete's true love from the comics, Gwen Stacy, as his love interest for this set of movies.

I'm also excited to see them fleshing out the backstory of Peter's parents, and seeing how they have directly influenced Peter in becoming Spider-Man. Adding Sally Field (Aunt May), Rhys Ifans (Dr. Curt Conners), and Marin Sheen (Uncle Ben) to an already stellar cast was an incredible feat, and will only add to how good this movie will be.

But if super heroes aren't your thing, then definitely check out Ted opening on Friday June 29th!
