Outbound Exchange Students Address Rotary
July 17, 2012
By: Stephen Kent
Tanner Norton, Nadieska Vasquez, Amanda Haag
Nadi Vasquez, last week's speaker, visited the club again on her last day in the US. She was scheduled to return to Peru the next day. She came to the front for a moment to once again thank the club and her host families for her stay over the last school year.
For the program, our two outbound exchange students presented their required talks and slide shows about their home country. Presenting the talks to local clubs allows the students to refine them and practice prior to going abroad and presenting to clubs in the country they visit.
Tanner Norton, the first speaker, will be going to Paraguay next year. Applicants list several choices of countries they'd like to go to. Tanner listed a number of Spanish speaking countries and frankly, Paraguay was not his first choice. But once selected he researched the country and looks forward to this experience.
Amanda Haag will be going to Northern Germany. In this case it was her first choice. Her talk and slide show highlighted the State of Michigan and the major cities and activities. Her first slide showed the traditional left hand for the UP and right hand for the Lower. She marked the major locations on each.
Both students talked about family and friends, activities, school and their plans. The club offered suggestions which will the students can later incorporate into their talks.
