These days, Hollywood gets a lot of heat for recycling ideas, rebooting old franchises, and just generally being uncreative all around. While that's not 100% true, it's not 100% untrue either.

Not exactly the Robert De Niro film

This won't exactly be a weekend full of creative ideas, as Total Recall gets the remake treatment and The Diary of a Wimpy Kid gets a sequel in Dog Days, but in all honestly, this nerd doesn't care one bit.

Not all of us are as... lucky(?) as this guy.

While I enjoy movies that are completely a wholly unique, that push boundaries, and define genres, there's a reason we all rush out and buy the DVDs of our favorite favorite films, the box-sets of our favorite shows, and spend $1 at a time on our favorite songs on iTunes. We, as a society, love the safety of what we know.

We know that we love the movies, shows, and songs, so we are willing to spend our hard earned money in support of these things.

It's the same for the people spending their money in Hollywood. They know what stories people will pay money to see over and over again, so those are the ones that they invest in. And can anyone really blame someone for wanting to take the safe route with their money? Definitely not me.

On a side note, with the way technology is advancing, there are so many avenues for people to find creative and original content, and there are so many ways for those with a creative mind to create that content, that big budgets and studios are no longer required to distribute them. If you haven't done some digging and found some absolutely excellent (and free) online content, I've done you a favor and found some for you.

But onwards and upwards, we've got a couple of movies coming out this weekend, that, depending on who you're attending the theater with, are both good options.
