Washington, PA Hosts PONY 50th Annual Competition

The Home of PONY Baseball is hosting its 50th Pony World Series.


PONY Baseball began in Washington, PA in the spring of 1951 with six local teams. The next year, the first World Series was held, with games played at Washington High School Stadium.

According to News.PONY.ORG, "After visiting seven others cities/towns 11 times over a 20-year period, the World Series returned to Washington in 1984. Each annual gathering since then has been played at Lew Hays PONY Field." Action began Friday, August 10, with the annual Home Run Derby & Fastest Runner Contest at 11 am. Fans can hear all the action of Washington's 50th PONY League World Series on WJPA-AM (1450) and online via MSA Sports.net.

Four players advanced to the Home Run Derby Finals with Keneth Munoz, Caguas, hitting three homers to win. Washington's Evan McDaniel was second.

CJ Glaza, Bay County, rounded the bases in a blazing 13.9 seconds, winning a tie-breaker with runnerup Lukas Stutz of Paderborn.
