September Sung Evensong

Exultate Deo Chamber Choir, Robert Sabourin, conductor and Nicholas Schmelter, organist will lead Evensong on Sunday, September 30, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. for the Feast of St. Michael and All Angels.

Exultate Deo is a chamber choir of singers from the Great Lakes Region who specialize in sacred music by master composers. Nicholas Schmelter is the Director of Music at historic First Congregational Church in Saginaw.

Sabourin is the Organist - Choir Director at Trinity Episcopal and the founding conductor of the Exultate Deo. Jett Whithead will be the worship leader for Evensong.

The service will feature the music of English composer Herbert Howells (1892-1930) who is considered by many to be the most important composer for the church from the 20th century. The service will begin with a fifteen minute organ and choral program of music written for the Anglican Church by Howells.

Repertoire will include anthems "Like as the Hart," "O Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem" and the canticles "Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis" written for New College Oxford. The choir will also sing "And I Saw Another Angel" by C. V. Stanford who was Howell's composition teacher. Organ music will include "Rhapsody No. 1", "Intrata No. 2" and "Paen" all by Howells.

The service is open to the public free of charge.

Trinity is located at 815 N Grant St in downtown Bay City. Barrier free access is found on the west side of the building.
