Early reports from the field indicate that Opening Day in Northern Michigan was a successful outdoor event.
The Indian River Buck Pole set a new record this year with 125 bucks hanging by the end of the first day of the 2012 season.
The largest (10 Point) weighed in at 185 pounds -- taken at 10:00 am.
Bay City's George Lynch, who hunted in the Indian River area put down a 4 point and reported that a good percentage of his fellow hunters in the Lynch camp hung deer in 2012.
Also, Lynch reported that there was snow on the ground in Indian River for opening day and added something about a "spotted salamander" sighting. (More on the salamander, later).
