There will be smiles on the faces of a lot of local area kids thanks to the effort of LastChoiceCountry Radio and a band of merry elf-like helpers.

Josh Sharrow and Shawn Doyle of LastChoice Country spent five days and nights in a camper out in front of Millar's Appliance on Euclid Avenue . . . gathering toys for the upcoming Christmas season.

On December 14th, the toy gathering crews got together to distribute the toys to the organizations advertised in their fundraising brochures.

Representatives from Womens' Center, Samaratin Rescue Mission, Do-All and the Yellow Ribbon Guard were all on hand to box and ship the toys to their distribution agencies.

"After 5 days in a camper and countless hours of radio air time, it feels good to give these toys away." Said Josh Sharrow of Last Choice Country.

The camper (toy hauler) used for the fundraiser was donated by Stevens Cycle Sales in Bay City and the two day effort to sort, box and ship the toys was accomplished at the Stevens Cycle Warehouse facility.

"It's all about the community for us," said Shawn Doyle during the weekend Christmas toy drive. "We just really enjoy giving back to the community," Doyle said.

Doyle went on to thank event sponsors 7-11 (Kawkawlin Road), Ash Events, Night Life Venue and Two Men and a Truck for their support.

ALL TOYS WILL BE GOING TO LOCAL FAMILIES!!

The Steven's Cycle Toy Hauler was at Millar's Appliance on Euclid Ave. starting Black Friday.

Toys were distributed to the following non-profit organizations:
  • Bay Area Womens Center
  • Good Samaritan Rescue Mission
  • Yellow Ribbon Guard
  • Do-All Inc.

  • "This is a wonderful opportunity to provide a nice Christmas to some children with disabilities in our community, thanks so much to everyone who contributed to this worthwhile venture," said Kristal Corrion, Director, Do-Care Family Enrichment Center, a division of Do-All, Inc. "Josh and Shawn, you're the best!," said Corrion.

Plans are already in place for another toy fundraiser in 2013.

"We are very appreciative for all the gifts given on Christmas day. Our average number of people here has gone up. It's usually about 45 this time of year but we are at 70 now," said Jill Blair - Rescue Mission

The group also raised about $1,000 that was also made available for the purchase of toys.

"There are so many children now in this environment and the kids that come here come with absolutely nothing. They feel lost because they are in a strange place with strange people. This (toy donation) lets them be kids. It gives them hope and puts a light in their eyes," said Kathy Allen (Bay Area Womens Center Director)

"These children come here with adult problems, this donation allows them to be children again," said Kathy.
