There are no right words.
"There is a sacredness in tears.
They are not the mark of weakness, but of power.
They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues.
They are messengers of overwhelming grief...and unspeakable love."
Washington Irving
It is pretty certain there were some tears shed around this country this week.
Tears of grief, anger, support, shock and yes, tears of love.
Love for our neighbors.
People most of us don't personally know, but who we share the heaviness of our hearts and recognition of their enormous loss, with our prayers and our tears.
Those who are strangers, yet who we feel compelled to convey our sympathy because we know they too are not only our neighbor citizens in this United States, but are also grandparents, aunts, sisters, brothers, cousins and parents, just like us, suffering inconsolable grief.
Grief and horror of a depth we cannot fathom.
There isn't one prayer, one perfect well-written poem, a single heartfelt message or a loving epitaph of condolence in a situation so horrifying, as to not be able to fully comprehend its evilness.
There are no right words.
We only have the sacredness of our tears to share.
Please accept them as a small token of our immense sadness and our unspeakable love of our fellow human beings. May our collective tears bring you the power needed to keep moving one foot in front of the other during this awful time.
God Bless all the victims and families during this very sad time in our history-December 2012.
