MICHAEL CECCHINI PROMOTED TO PUBLIC SAFETY DIRECTOR

BAY CITY, MI - Bay City Manager Robert Belleman has selected the city's new public safety director. Michael Cecchini, the city's Police Chief, was selected for the position effective January 1, 2013.

"Chief Cecchini is a well-respected police officer and a tremendous public servant who will continue to serve our community well. The city' police and fire departments will now be under the same leader. Further restructuring of the Public Safety Department will take place with Cecchini's leadership after the first of the year," said City Manager Robert Belleman in a statement.

As the director, Cecchini will administer, plan and direct the activities and operations of the city's Public Safety Department including law enforcement, criminal investigations, crime prevention, fire suppression and prevention, emergency medical services, and disaster responses.

Chief Cecchini is a 25 year law enforcement veteran, beginning his career with the City of Phoenix, Arizona in 1987. He held assignments in the Patrol Division, Planning and Research Bureau, Internal Affairs Division, Office of the Police Chief and was the commanding officer of the Ahwatukee-Foothills Substation. He was sworn into office as the Bay City Police Chief on December 11, 2006.

Chief Cecchini has a Bachelor of Science Degree from Arizona State University, a Master's in Education from Northern Arizona University and is a graduate of Arizona State University's Advanced Public Executive Program where he received the designation of Certified Public Manager. He is also a graduate of the 236th Session of the FBI National Academy.

Chief Cecchini is an active member in the community and involved with several community organizations. He is a member of the Bay City Morning Rotary Club and a director of the Literacy Council of Bay County. Chief Cecchini also serves as a member of the Saginaw Valley State University Certified Public Manager Advisory Committee and the Delta College Criminal Justice/Corrections Advisory Committee.

On December 3, 2012, the Bay City City Commission adopted the implementation plan for Public Safety merging the Police and Fire Departments to make the functions more effective and efficient.
