McLaren Bay Medical Foundation has announced that 1,000 food items will be donated to the Good Samaritan Rescue Mission in Bay City, Mich., as a result of a special social media campaign designed to raise food for that organization, according to McLaren Bay Medical Foundation Director Matthew Felan.

For every new follower who signed on to McLaren Bay Medical Foundation's Facebook and Twitter accounts from Nov. 15 - Dec. 31, Bay Medical Foundation donated food items to the Good Samaritan Rescue Mission. Additionally, the Bay City Meijer on N. Pine Road recently donated $800 in Meijer gift cards.

"Good Samaritan Rescue Mission appreciates the care McLaren Bay Medical Foundation has toward meeting the needs of our community. There has never been a greater need to stock our food pantry than right now because of the recent cold months combined with the fact that we have never served more people than we are serving this winter," said Rescue Ministries of Mid-Michigan Executive Director Dan Streeter.

"We value this increased partnership with McLaren Bay Medical Foundation as we continue to serve those most in need in our community. And Meijer has always been a great partner, helping those less fortunate and this is more evidence of their heart for giving back to the community. Thank you to all of the Facebook Friends of McLaren Bay Medical Foundation who helped make this tremendous donation of food possible."

"Hunger is a growing problem in the community, and we are proud to join McLaren Bay Medical Foundation in this hunger relief effort," Meijer Spokeswoman Christina Fecher said. "Meijer understands how important it is to support the community where our customers and team members work and live. That's why we donate more than 6 per cent of our net profit to charity each year."

Representatives from McLaren Bay Medical Foundation will deliver the 1,000 food items and Meijer gift cards to the Good Samaritan Rescue Mission at 3 p.m. on Tues., Jan. 15. The Good Samaritan Rescue Mission is at 713 9th St., Bay City.
