Central's Varsity Cheerleaders begin their cheer

Central's Varsity Cheer Team places 1st at Invitational, JV places 4th

Bay City Central's Varsity Cheerleaders soared in the Wolf Pack Cheer Invitational, placing first with a final score of 736.44. Schools from around the state gathered at Central to take part in the Invitational, with a total of fifteen schools attending. Scoring second at the meet was Merill, and in third Houghton Lake, with scores of 732.58 and 708.78, respectively.

Team manager Olivia Grocholski expressed her confidence in the team even before they performed, "I think they are going to be awesome- I think they are going to stand out today." Grocholski's predictions were confirmed from the get go, with the team receiving the highest total score for the first two rounds of the competition. Senior member of the Varsity cheer team Sarah Charbonneau commented that the second round was "the best round of my entire life."

When asked about the team's overall performance, Charbonneau said "It was good, we had the home team advantage." Freshman Skylar Urban commented on the spectators, "the crowd is great" she said. When discussing her individual performance, Urban stated "I did good, I had lots of adrenaline." Urban noted that one thing she needs to work on is to "keep yelling" while Charbonneau said that one way she could improve was to "hit motions harder at the end of the routine."

Bay City Western's Varsity Cheerleaders gave the other teams a run for their money as well, scoring 611.59, outranking seven of the competing teams.

While the day ended with Varsity, it did not begin that way; Bay City Central's Junior Varsity team placed 4th out of the twelve competing teams. Central was outranked by only three schools; Mt. Pleasant earning 1st place, with a score of 630.6 to Central's 520.2. Sophomore Alea Martinez, member of the JV team expressed her satisfaction with the teams performance, saying "I think that we tried our hardest-we gave it our all." When asked about her individual performance, Martinez said "I think that I just tried to make my team proud."
