The Opportunity Connection website is a free resource for teachers, students, employers and parents. It offers hundreds of opportunities provided by over 50 local employers such as job shadowing, field trips, mentoring, career day speakers and resources. Opportunity Connection, an interactive website, is a highly structured site, which offers links to additional resources and information related to youth and education.

Opportunity Connection can help you become a volunteer and find the school and role that fits your needs. All you have to do is decide what you want to do and make a commitment.

Volunteers work with schools and children in many areas including tutoring, reading to students, helping out in the libraries and computer labs, and assisting on the playground. They also support other activities such as chaperoning dances or field trips, helping with school productions and even attending PTA meetings.

People of all professions, ages, and educational backgrounds are invited to join Opportunity Connection's Volunteer Program. All that is needed is the desire to help and the love of children. For more information, or to become a volunteer, call Jo Ellen Strieter, Director of Education, Programs & Events, at (989) 893-4567 or email a request to joellen@baycityarea.com.

A beneficial feature of the site is the Resource Exchange. Resource Exchange allows teachers to post specific needs for their classrooms.

Here are some items needed:

Bay Area Catholic Schools:
Bay Area Catholic Schools (BACS) are seeking presenters from within the Great Lakes Bay Region, or beyond, who have experience giving presentations to groups of children in a school or other setting. Our areas of interest include Science, Social Studies, Math, Fine Arts, Health/Fitness, Language Arts, Technology, Religion and other fields of expertise. These may include jobs/careers as well as hobbies/personal interests. We will appreciate presenters who are enthusiastic, positive in their messages and willing to answer children's questions.

"Go Farther Day" will be an awe-inspiring, expo-type day for elementary and middle school students, with enriching opportunities for them to learn about a variety of things that may not fit into our normal curriculum. We wish to pique students' interests with engaging presentations, some hands-on learning activities, and a variety of fun, learning experiences. Sponsorships are also welcomed. Thank you for your consideration of our requests!
