Six teams total tried their best, but only one remained at the last round to claim the plaque for the winners of the Bay County Literacy Council Adult Spelling Bee on Wednesday, Feb 27, 2013.
The team, 'The Spellbinders' winning on the word "apologetic" consisted of Denise Trudell, Mark Grotelueschen and Marilyn Kaeckmeister of the Bay County Library System. They wrapped up the competition in the 14th round.
Gougeon Employees Foundation were runners up. Their team, 'Bee G's', included Rita Waynee, Grace Ombry and Stephanie Robertson. The ladies made an all out effort and placed very high for a newcomer team.
Other business teams included, 'Team One Wannabee's' Melissa Garcia, Patricia Cox and Jodi Watkins, of Team One Credit Union.
The 'Spell-Checkers', Alyssa Hopps, Gary Hopps and Diane Szczepanski, representing FinancialEdge Credit Union. The Spell-Checkers were last years winners.
'Spellbound' consisting of Lynne Moore, Diane Hurley and Patti Smith of Bangor Township Schools. The Bay City Noon Optimist club sent their team the 'Phenoms', Lee Thompson, Crystal Casey Danielak and Carrie Rostollan.
Food donors for this fundraiser for the literacy council,were Buffalo Wild Wings, Sweet Boutique and Hungry Howie's and the event was sponsored by the Great Lakes Loons.
